Big Pilton Quiz 2014 won by ‘Hunter Gatherers’

The Fourth Big Pilton Quiz in the Church Hall on Saturday 10th May was won by ‘Hunter Gatherers’ (Ross & Jan Hunter, Keith & Carolyn Devine and Kev & Debbie Turner, below).  They won by just ½ a mark in a very close competition which saw the top seven teams, of the twenty teams of six who took part, separated by only 6½ points.  ‘Hunter Gatherers’ won the beautiful wooden question mark and a box of rather nice food.  With the help of the raffle, with some really good prizes, the evening raised about £650 for further improvements to the Hall and The Pilton Story – among other Pilton stuff.

Particularly involved in making the evening a success were Quiz Setter Carol Haddrill, Master of Ceremonies Tom Prideaux, Question Master Hamish Patrick, Techie Martin Haddrill, Marker Pip Cartmell and Raffle Ticket Seller Susan O’Grady.

Three Hundred and Counting

Crows over St Mary's Church, Pilton

The Pilton Story Facebook Group – follow the link to find it – has just reached its 300th member.  It is great to see knowledge of the existence of The Pilton Story spreading further and, it seems to us, to a new generation.  We are starting to get things posted on Facebook or given to us by the children of long time Piltonians.  And, what’s more, we are nearly up to 400 items in the archive.  Please keep them coming.  Remember, history starts yesterday and we are keen on archiving the events of today which are the history of tomorrow.

Thanks to Al Brown for letting us use his brilliant black and white photograph of the church here and on the Facebook Group page.
