Welcome to The Pilton Story

The Pilton Story multimedia database officially went live on 15th March after lots of hard work with and by our builders, frieze conservator, electrician, floorer, computer supplier, volunteers and web designer.   It now contains over 60 pieces of video, photography, audio files, documents and memories and more are in the pipeline.

As The Pilton Story team gets into its stride, volunteers will be talking to people about their stories, organising exhibitions and presentations of the historical material collected, and looking for others to join our team helping us build up the database. These activities and events will be publicised here as soon as they are planned.

Over the next few months we will be adding more and more to the database, with new and popular items appearing on the Home page of the website. To search the database click here.  If you would like to join in the fun, find out more or tell us about your experiences of life in Pilton, please get in touch through the Contact Us page.

Restoration of 16th Century Frieze

Conservation of a Tudor frieze was an important part of the refurbishment work on The Pilton Story base in Pilton Church Hall.  This involved repair of damaged timbers behind the frieze above the window by Pilton carpenter Andy Kilby and careful removal of centuries of paint by conservator Richard Jaeschke (photo left).  This painstaking work revealed a delicate stylised grape and leaf pattern (photo below).  We are awaiting an expert opinion on the likely date and who might have created it for the 16th Century merchant thought to have lived in the building.

Pilton Church Hall has a lot of similar frieze downstairs and it is hoped that this will also be conserved when funds are available.
