Although outside our usual geographical area, we have included this picture of the Barnstaple waste collection team (dustmen?) outside Castle House on Castle Green, Barnstaple. That dates it to well before 1976, when Castle House was demolished. However, the vehicles suggest the 1950s but we would like to verify this.
Far left on the front row is Fred Tanner of Pilton Street and later of Carrington Terrace on Yeo Vale. This great picture was posted on our Facebook page by Martyn Easterbrook who is his grandson. Also identified, by his nephew Cyril Dennis, is Bill Murch, third from the right on the front row with the trilby hat. Harold ‘Dusty’ Capner, second from the right on the back row, was identified by his son Victor Capner.
