The fire destroyed much of the interior and all but the sturdiest timbers of the house beside the main road out of Bradiford towards Ilfracombe. It was on July 18 1974. The building was also flooded a number of times up to the 90s when SWW built flood prevention works to protect many of the lower-lying houses by the stream in Bradiford.
