Rev Anthony Geering Proclaiming at the First Pilton Festival in 1982

This photograph is one of the few good pictures we have found of the Rev Anthony Geering, Vicar of Pilton and the man credited with the idea of the modern Pilton Festival in 1982. The anecdotal evidence is that his green costume, which may have been more ‘Robin Hood’ than ‘Green Man’ suggested a theme for future Festivals – and Pilton Green Man was born.

Thanks to Albert Linacre for keeping this photograph all this time.
